Abstract

China received 1.2 million patent applications each year. Singapore received about 10,000 applications. The US sees about 600,000; Japan has around 560,000 applications.

Malaysia has around 8000 applications each year. Amongst the 8000 applications, only one-third involve local companies. These data show that Malaysia is still lagging behind in terms of innovation and technology development.

The National Policy on Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTIN) 2021-2030 aims to intensify local technology development and to transform the country from technology users to technology developers.

In conjunction with this policy, we produce this e-guide to assist you to sail through the wave of innovations. In brief, this e-guide introduces the types of Intellectual Property and their respective functions.
